The Lighthouse organization was formed in the late 1980’s as a step of faith to begin a ministry for adults with intellectual disabilities in the Flathead Valley. Several years later, 40 acres of land was provided through Farm in the Dell International Properties. Starting in 1994 and over the following 4 years a beautiful, 8,000 square foot, custom designed home was constructed through a combination of “blitz” building efforts and weekend work. The entire project was accomplished using volunteer labor, materials and donations of cash. 

The Lighthouse experienced reorganization in the summer of 2004 to better serve the residents and community. A 24/7 staffing model was implemented and managed by an experienced Executive Director. To utilize the whole home the number of residents was increased to 12 with the approval of the State Licensing Agency.  

Currently at capacity with a waiting list the Lighthouse has grow into a quality program with a unique way of providing services for adults in need of supervision of daily skills, activities, and work. Through a combination of residential fees and fundraising we are able to remain a private pay organization that puts Christ at the center of all we do. 

Our philosophy to serve adults with disabilities with a faith, farm, and family foundation has became very popular and well received in our community and elsewhere as many new organizations for other parts of our state and other states have consulted us about using our group home model.

The Lighthouse is dependent upon volunteers of all ages. Everyone brings a talent and new perspective to our residents. Whether it is a scheduled time weekly or for an event or fundraiser, we love to have you join us. Whether you help indoors, outdoors, assist with sports or worship, or provide companionship, this is a meaningful part of the residents’ lives.
